As many of you know, Dermace is largely a family-run business - and due to the close-knit way we work, we consider our staff to part of our extended family too.
In October of 2015, Teresa and I got the devastating news that no parent ever wants to hear: Our 3 year old girl, Tia, was diagnosed with leukaemia.
As you can imagine, our world was rocked by this, and so began our journey through chemo, illness, and the unknown.
At the time of her diagnosis, we were on holiday with family in Ibiza. Luckily, we had good insurance and were airlifted to Palma, then after a few days we were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment of the cancer.
It’s been a rollercoaster of a time for us, but our family and friends have been there for us in ways we never thought possible.
Dermace has continued on, with both Teresa and I taking turns to care for Tia and manage work commitments. Our staff have been amazing to the point where many people would not have know of the crisis being dealt with behind the scenes.
Tia still has another 12 months of treatment to endure, but she is now back at school and thriving among her friends. We still administer her chemo every night as a medicine, and she returns to hospital every month for IV Chemo. She has many procedures and treatments in between, but she is very strong - just like her mother!
We are now almost back up to full speed, and we’re approaching things with a new vigour and determination. This process has put an entirely new spin on things for us, and has taught us valuable lessons about life, who you can count on, and (interestingly) who you cannot.
Tia is 5 years old now, and she’s fighting hard. We intend to fight hard too.
All the best in 2017 - to all our techs and partners. If you have any questions about the changes and how they might affect you - please get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org
